Shanghai 2015

Shanghai is relatively easy and safe to get from places to places with so many forms of mode of transports. However, cabs and Uber services are cheap compared to Singapore, so those were what we took most of time to get around. We did hop on to the Shanghai Metro once, and acted all local by nonchalantly walking through the security officer. Having said that, within the core city of Shanghai, it is quite walkable as well.

The Bund

What I like about the Bund is that you can see the new Shanghai and the old Shanghai side by side. That is probably why it is a hotspot for wedding shoots and tourist alike.

Yu Yuan 豫园

This is the place where you get Nanxiang Mantou. A Shanghai street food made famous by Anthony Bordain. Best consumed when it is cold due to the piping hot soup within the mantou.

Toy Manjia

You would think a city like Shanghai would have a lot of cool toy shops like the ones in Tokyo. But, no. After an intensive online search, we only found Toy Manjia. It was pretty extensive, however, we also found out that a lot of the toys were fake.

K11 Art Mall

Bringing art to the consumer thus making it accessible. Unfortunately, we went there too late for the art gallery within the mall.

M50 is former industrial district turned artsy fartsy enclave. Amazing space for art with a few cool shops and cafes.

Undefine @ M50

There was a really nice cafe in M5o where we chilled out after looking at all those art. The coffee was pretty good too.

The Commune Social

The combination of ingredients of their tapas are refreshing and their presentation is amazing, aka very instagrammable. We were greatly satisfied.

The Shanghai Library

You must register before 4:30pm to enter the library. Obviously, we did not make it in time.

Tianzifang 田子坊

The ultimate touristy area. Endless number of alleys filled with restaurants, bars, pottery shops, and, at least, 4 of the same sunglasses shops under the Sanglasses brand.

Amokka Cafe & Anfu Lu

Anfu Lu doesn’t hide the fact that it is a place for yuppies and expats. Nice weekend brunch restaurants, hipster grocers, expensive interior shops and the original Feiyue shop that you won’t believe. We went to Amokka Cafe, had a nice brunch and stayed to watch people for a while. Later on, we spotted a camera museum and checked it out. It was quite small, but interesting.

JingAn District 静安区

JingAn is Shanghai’s Orchard Road of sort, I think. Although, we stayed in an Airbnb there, we didn’t really explore the place. Marked by a huge temple in the center of it, it is filled with shopping malls and international hotels.

Airbnb @ Jing An

Tucked in an alley, the Airbnb is one of the many old historical houses in Shanghai. It was really cozy and convenient. The area houses many old people therefore you had to be very quiet. However, that meant that the area was really quiet too.

Hyatt on the Bund

This was also a work trip so I got to stay at the prestiges Hyatt on the Bund. I had a great view, two beds and hotel breakfast, so that was awesome.
